In the town of
Tungitiro there was a hill called La Mesa De Los Muertos (the hill of the
dead),were phenomenal and unexplainable
things had happen. The legend says there was war named La Guerra Sangrienta
(bloody war) and that los soldados (soldiers) would bury there valuables under
a big tree before they were buried. It also says that if you put one foot on
the hill then los espiritus (spirits) and el diablo (devil) would awaken from
there slumber.
In the village there lived two curious brothers one was
named Vidal and the other Adan. It was one day away from their 20th birthday
they thought going hunting on the hill would be a adventure they would never
forget. The two brothers left late that afternoon eager to test the legend.
They arrived when the top of hill was
illuminated by the bright full moon. Then Vidal turned to Adan and said. “ Voy
a buscar una parte donde este alumbrado por la luna per que hayga sombras para
escondernos”, ( i’m gonna find the perfect place to set camp were the moon
shines but theres shade were we can hid).
When Vidal found the place he was looking for they used a
deer hunting trick taught by there father called salado (salted) they would
sprinkle salt on the moist ground were it was to dissolved. After the salt
dissolved, Vidal climed a tree close by and made un nido (nest). It was made by
intertying rope to the branches. To
finish it of he piled leaves and grass on top of it. Meanwhile Adan found a
tall tree perfect to keep a look out, he climed it and made his nido there
(nest).
Vidal fell asleep waiting for a deer to come by. It was
midnight when a sound woke him up and reach for his rifle. He looked down where
they had placed the salt and saw a buck liking the ground. He raised his rifle
and shot. But the deer did not fall it just pranced away into el bosque
(forest). A few minutes after Vidal had shot Adan eso el chiflado de los
tiradores (the whistle of the shoters) to let him now to hold fire. Adan said, “Vi un venado saltando asia el bosque es
fue al que le tirates?” (I
saw a buck jumping into the forest. Vidal nodded and said, “ Si se me haces que esta herido
pero le pege.” ( yes I took a shot at him but i think his injuerd ).
It was the break of
dawn when they got up and search for el venado (buck). The brothers looked all
over la mesa (hill) but never found el venado (buck). They spend all day
looking for something that would lead them to it. But they didn’t find a trace no tracks, no hair, and no blood trail. It was
getting dark when the brothers decided it was time to pack up and go home. Till
this day they wonder what they really saw that night, was it un espiritu
enojado ( angry spirit) or was it el diablo (the devil) telling them to go
away.
