Chapters One-Sixteen
By: Zaira Arteaga Juarez
Chapter One
The
school year started out like any other ordinary year. I woke up at 5 a.m. took
a shower, got ready and had breakfast.
Everything seemed to be the same old things from last
year, at least until history class. We were taking a test and we only had 15
minutes left to complete test. I looked down at my paper and I still had 10
questions left and to top it all off two of the questions were short essays.
I looked at the clock and whispered, “Oh time, would you
slow down not just the time on the clock but the actual time.” I looked back at
my paper and started answering the questions. After I would answer a question I
would look up at the clock to see how much time I had left. Something strange
was going on. Time seemed to go by slow. I was able to finish the test with 5
minutes to spare.
In English were going to have a test. I got to class and
sat down nervously. I had not
The English teacher walked in with a disappointed look on
his face and said, “We will studied for the test. I whispered to myself, “Oh
please let the teacher not find the test.”
He walked in to the class room and said, “We will not be taking the test
today, I seem to have misplaced the test.”
I wanted to tell someone about what had happen, but who?
It I were to tell my closest friends they would just tell me that it was
nothing, that it must have been all in my imagination.
The rest of the day I thought about what had happened. I
couldn’t keep quiet anymore I had to tell someone.
I was walking to my parents room when I heard them
arguing. I stopped and stood quietly in the hallway.
My mom said to my dad, “We only have to keep this for 2
more years from Zarina.”
What was my mom talking about?
My dad said, “Once she turns 18 then Zarina will lose all
her gifts and powers.”
I ran to my room and waited for my parents to leave to
pick up my brother Mario from soccer practice.
Once they left I ran to their room and looked for my
mom’s journal. Surely there would be something in there about my so called
gifts and powers.
When I found tit, I quickly skimmed through the pages
looking for something that would clear all this up.
I heard the door open. My mom hollered, “Sweetie, where
are you? Come out to the dining room.”
I grabbed my mom’s journal and hid it under my baggy sweater.
I ran almost tripping to my room and hid the journal under my bed.
My mom walked into my room and said, “Come on, it’s time
for dinner.”
I walked out of my room and helped my mom set the table.
After dinner I went to my room and locked the door.
I was exhausted but the desire to know more about my
gifts and powers, made me get the journal out. I found a whole section about
me. I decided to put a bookmark in it and went to sleep, I had school the next
day.
The next day the first thing I did was take my mom’s
journal out from under my pillow. I read a page and realized I was going to be
late.
I left her journal on my desk and got dressed quickly. As
the day went by it was hard to concentrate. All I could think of was my parents
mentioning that I had gifts and powers, but also of what I had read this
morning.
All I wanted was to go home and finish reading my mom’s
journal.
It seemed like school lasted forever, but finally the
clock struck three.
When I got home I quickly ran to my room. I couldn’t find
the journal, I clearly remember leaving it on my desk this morning. Surely my
mom saw it and took it.
I went into my parent’s room and looked for the journal.
It was in the same place I found it the day before.
When I was walking out of the room my mom was waiting for
me in the hallway she grasped the journal from my hands with anger.
I said, “Why did you do that?
She just held a cold glare at me and called for my dad to
come. She said, “It’s for your own good.”
My dad said, “Listen to us, there’s nothing in that
journal that should know.”
I said, “If you don’t want me to read the journal then
why don’t you two tell me about my gifts and powers.”
My mom said, “You are to forget you ever heard that and
forget everything you read in my journal.”
I ran to my room and slammed the door. I laid face down
on my bed crying out of anger. There had to be a way to find out about my gifts
and powers.
Chapter Two
I had to get that journal back somehow. All I was able to
read was that I had the gift to understand people, sense their emotions, I was
able to see their past and there future, I could see and talk to the dead.
As I remembered when I was little I saw shadows and heard
voices. I would tell my mom but she would just say, “You have such a creative
imagination.”
Days went by and I was still trying to find a way to
learn more about what I was capable of doing.
Today at the cafeteria Esteban talked to my friend Emily
and me. Esteban had barely moved into town, no one knew were he had moved from
or knew much about him. He was tall, built, had sharp facial features, and dark
black hair.
There was something about him. I felt like I had meet him
before, but were?
We started to talk every day and hang out after school
from time to time. We became closer.
Emily got mad at me because I have been hanging out with
Esteban. She didn’t like that I have been hanging out with Esteban more than
her. The more I would hang out with him the more I started to feel something
for him. As days past I felt like I could trust him. I would tell him more
things that not even my friends knew.
He said, “I know this
might sound weird but when I’m with you I feel something that I have never felt
before.”
I smiled at him and I
might have blushed a little.
He smiled back and
said, “Well my angle it’s time for 6th period I’ll walk you to class.”
When we got to my
classroom I asked, “Why did you call me angle?”
He laughed as if I had
said something funny and said, “See you tomorrow.” And walked away.
Why would he call me “angle”
he had never called me things like that. Was he making fun of me or was that a
compliment or how was I supposed to take that?
The next morning he
walked up were my friends and I would hang out.
Esteban said, “Good
morning all of you.”
Emily, Sophia,
Elizabeth, Mae, and Brigit all mumbled, “Good morning.”
Esteban extended his
arms and walked closer to me. Mae jumped up from where she was sitting and got
in between us and pushed him.
Esteban said, “Calm
down Mae it’s just a hug.
She said, “With you, I
don’t think so.”
He smiled and said,
“Well then Zarina I’ll see you during lunch.”
Lunch came and I was
sitting on the lunch table. He came and sat across from me. I hardly remember
what happened I wasn’t paying much attention to anything I was think of my so
called gifts.
After school I decided
to go to the library to do some research maybe there was something there that
could help me find out more. Even though my parents had forbid me from learning
more about the gifts, I was determined to learn more about them.
I looked up at the
walls. There were thousands of books about the history of magic and
unexplainable things that people have said to experience. One book stood out
and caught my eyes. It was on the top dusty shelf. But I could tell that it was
dark red with golden words that said, “Gifts” with gold lining on the edges of
the book.
I took the book of the
shelf spiders crawled out of the book and scurried to the corner of the shelf.
I took the book to the
librarian she looked at the book and then at me with a concern look.
She said, “Are you sure
you want to check out this old book?”
I nodded and said, “Yes
I am sure.” I just kept smiling wishing that she would hurry up.
She took one more look
at the book and back at me and said, “You know what just keep it, it is just a
blank book.”
I said, “Thank you.”
I walked out of the
library with the book close to my chest. When I got to my car Esteban was
leaning on my car waiting for me. He smiled and said, “Hello my angle what you
got there.”
He reached for the
book, I just hugged the book even tighter.
Esteban laughed and
said, “Are you hiding something?”
I said, “No why you
think that?”
Esteban leaned closer. My back was up against
the car and the only thing between us was the red book.
He whispered in my ear,
“If you let me see the book, I will tell you a secret, a secret about you and
I.”
I could feel him
breathing down my neck. Our eyes were locked together. He took my hand. My
heart was pounding it seemed like it was going to burst out of my chest.
Chapter Three
Esteban leaned
in closer our noses were touching. I could feel his breath on my lips.
I heard Emily say, “So
Zarina are you ready for dinner, I mean if you want to. Am I interrupting
anything?”
Esteban backed up and
gave her a clod stare and said, “ As a matter of fact you are interrupting.”
Emily said, “If you want I will just caught up
with you later Zarina.”
Esteban said, “I think
that would be the best thing to do.”
I said, “No it’s fine
ready to go?”
Emily nodded.
Esteban whispered in my ear, “We will just
have to wait now won’t we my angle.”
He walked off murmuring
something.
Emily and I got in the
car and drove of a restaurant nearby.
A hostess greeted us
with a great big smile and walked us to a booth.
We eat dinner silently.
I didn’t know what to say. I mean I was thankful for Emily to have been there
but I wondered what was going to happen if she wouldn’t have been there.
Then Emily said, “So
what is going on with you and Esteban?”
I shook my head and
said, “There is nothing between Esteban and me, why?”
Emily said, “So you are
telling me that nothing is going on between you two when I just saw Esteban
leaning so close to you.”
I said, “Yea it’s
nothing why do you want to go out with him?”
Emily said, “So you
don’t feel anything for him?”
After a while I said,
“I don’t know if what I feel for him is real.”
Emily said, “O well how
about we talk about something else then.”
I nodded and said, “Yea
that would be good.”
Emily did all the
talking To be honest I wasn’t paying attention. All that kept replaying in my
mind was Esteban whispering in my ear as his body pressed on mine. I felt bad
and guilty because the truth I kind of liked the feeling of his body heat close
to me.
I was anxious to start
reading the book so when I got home I went straight to my room.
My mom came to my room
knocked on the door and said, “I made chocolate cake if you want some.”
I said, “Maybe latter.”
Something was going on
my mom never made dessert unless it was an important event or a special
occasion.
I went to the kitchen
were my mom and dad were sitting.
My mom said, “Do you
want a slice of cake.”
I nodded.
She got up and handed
me a plate with a cake. It was just like they were expecting me.
Then my mom apologized
for being rude to me.
My dad said,
“Everything we do comes from love always remember that. All we want is the best
for you.”
I shook my head and
said, “Its fine and I know you two just wanted to protect me.”
The truth was I didn’t
want to argue with them. The faster this conversation went the faster I would
be able to read the book.
I went to my room and
shut the door. I sat at my desk and got out the book. But something was
different about the book. The pages seemed to glisten with great intensity in
the moon light. I turned on my lamp and flipped thought the pages but they were
blank.
It didn’t make sense,
how can all the pages be blank. Was the librarian right was this book just
filled with blank pages.
Then I thought if the
pages shined when the moonlight would hit them. What would happen if the
moonlight would hit the book when it was completely open?
I pulled the curtains
away from the window and help the book up to the moonlight. It was like no
other book I had ever seen. The edges of the pages seemed like they had been
dipped in gold. The ink used in the book looked like gold was melted and used
as if were ink. On the first page instead of having information about the
author it had a warning. It said, “Once you have opened and started reading
this book you will find out many things that you will wish you had never laid a
finger on this sacred book. If you are brave enough then continue to read this
book if not then shut this book and return it to its rightful place and owner.”
Chapter Four
Without giving the warning much thought I flipped the
page. It said, “This is a guided for magic.” It stated that if a person had
gifts and was not trained and taught by their 18th birthday they
will lose all their powers forever. I closed the book and placed it under my
pillow and dosed off to sleep.
It was around midnight
when I heard foot steeps coming from the hallway. Who could it be Mario and I
were the only ones home and Mario was fast asleep.
I was too tired to get
up and see what or who was in the house maybe it was my parents that had come
early. I just pulled the covers and went back to sleep.
When I woke up I found
my bedroom door wide open. How could it have been open I distantly remember
closing it. I looked under my pillow the book wasn’t there. I didn’t have time
to look for it. I was to meet with my friends.
I knew I wasn’t going
to be able to think clearly. I was still thinking about the incident with
Esteban but also about the book. But perhaps going out with the girls would be
a good idea maybe it would clear my mind.
The fair had come into
town and since we had nothing else to do
Emily, Sophia, Elizabeth, Mae, Brigit and I planned to go together and have a
girls day.
The day seemed to have
passed by fast. I was glad I got out and had fun.
We were about to leave
when I saw Esteban. Sophia pushed me toward him and smiled at me. I really
didn’t want to say hi. I was hoping my friends hadn’t seen him and sneak pass
him.
I glared at Sophia. I
felt a hand on my shoulder, it was Esteban. Sophia glared back at me and said,
“Well we are going to go home I will give Emily a ride back to her house, why
don’t you stay with Esteban for a while.”
Esteban looked at me
and said, “Good idea why don’t you stay with me for a while.”
Before I could say anything
my friends were gone. Esteban looked at me and gave me a playful smile.
I was mad at Sophia but
at the same time I was glad she pushed me toward Esteban.
Esteban came behind me
held me in his arms and whispered in my ear passionately and softly, “Lets go
have fun.”
I could feel his warm
breath down my neck, my heart started beeping faster, and my legs felt like Jell-O.
I quickly pulled myself together turned around and pushed him away.
He smiled and said, “what
should we ride first my angle?’
He put his arm around
me and led me to a ride.
We road rides the rest
of the time. I actually had fun and enjoyed being with him.
Esteban walked me to my
car. I reached into my pocket but couldn’t find my keys. I started to panic.
Esteban just stared at
he was holding my keys.
I said, “Will you
please give me the keys.”
Esteban shook his head
walked to the passengers sear opened the door, gestured for me to get in the
car and said, “My angle.”
I got in the car. He
started driving.
I said, “Were are we going?”
Esteban said, “Do you
trust me?”
I said, “Yes.”
He said, “Okay then
don’t worry my angle.”
It had been a long day.
I feel asleep in the car.
I felt a hand on my
chin. I opened my eyes it was Esteban. He smiled and said, “Were hear.”
I sat up and looked out
the window we were at my house.
We got out the car.
I said, “Good night see
you on Monday.”
Esteban held my hand
and said, “Good night I think you mean see you later.”
I said, “And why is
that?”
Esteban said, “I’ll see
you later because I will see you in my dreams.”
I felt my checks turn
red. I looked down trying to hide.
Esteban kissed my
forehead held me close and said, “You have no idea what I want to do with you.”
Chapter Five
I just looked down.
Esteban gave me one
more kiss and said, “Maybe one day I will be able to, good night my angle.”
I said, “Good night I
better get in my house.”
Esteban smiled and
said, “See you later.” He walked off.
When I got in the house
all the lights were off. I went to the bathroom and got ready for bed.
I was going into my
room when Mario was standing in the hallway he was holding the red book. I
reached and yanked it out of his hands.
I said, “Who gave you
permission to go into my room?”
Mario said, “I didn’t
go into your room I found it on the floor in the hallway.”
I said, “You better of
not read it.”
He said, “Calm down sis
I was just looking for something to read for a book report, O by the way I
don’t know why you are so protective of that dumb book it has nothing but blank
pages.”
I went in to my room
and closed the door. How did the book end up in the hallway if it wasn’t Mario
the one who took my book then who did?
Maybe I dropped it and
didn’t notice.
I couldn’t go to sleep
so I decided to read the book. It went on about the history of magic and people
with gifts.
After the 5th
page the rest were blank. I held the book up to the moon but the letters were
too faded to read.
I turned back to the
last page I was able to read. On the bottom of the page with small letters is
said, “In order to continue reading this sacred book you must find Agatha
Claretta.”
I wrote the name down.
I would see what I could find out about her tomorrow.
I woke up and found a
note on the dining table. It said, “Good morning sweetie your father and I are
going on a business meeting out of town we will be back by 11 p.m. I left
breakfast for you and Mario in the fridge just heat it up.”
I went to my brother’s
room and woke him up. Mario was going to go to his karate class.
After we eat breakfast
I drove my brother to his class. His class lasted for 2 hours in the mean time
I would go and do some research.
I got on my computer
and looked up Agatha Claretta. I didn’t find much about her just that she was a
top Lawyer.
I looked for an address
or something that would lead me to her. But to my surprise it said that she had
died. The weird thing is that she had died on the same day I was born.
I kept looking to see
if she had any decedents but to my luck there was none but Agatha was buried in
the cemetery here in Moscow, Idaho.
I wanted to go to the
cemetery but I had to pick up Mario and drive him home.
I dropped him off and
made him some lunch. My plan was to leave Mario at home eating and I would
sneak out to the cemetery.
When he was eating
lunch I said, “I will be right back I am going to go and get groceries.
He stood up and said,
“Fine I will go with you.”
I said, “Are you sure
you want to go you will be bored why don’t you stay here and watch TV or
something.”
Mario just raised his
eyebrows and said, “Stop making excuses what are you up to?”
I said, “Nothing never
mind I’m just going to finish eating my lunch and do some homework in my room.”
No matter how much I
wanted to go and see Agatha well her tomb. But I couldn’t let my brother know.
He would probably tell my parents.
Night came and my
parents were still not home. My brother and I eat dinner. Then we went to our
bedrooms.
I laid on my bed
waiting for Mario to fall asleep so I could escape without him following me.
It was 11:30 p.m. when
I heard my parents come in the house they went straight to their room and past
out right away.
I opened my door to
make sure that everyone was asleep. I put on a sweeter and put the book in my
handbag.
I walked as quite as I
could to the front door opened it and ran for a couple of blocks.
As I walked to the
cemetery my bag glowed. It was the book I grabbed my bag and closed it so the
moonlight wouldn’t get to the book.
When I got to the
cemetery the book seemed to glow even stronger and it felt like something was
pulling the book.
Chapter Six
I climbed over the gate. I started to look at the tombs
but I couldn’t see anything it was to dark. I pulled out my phone and shined
the light on every tombstone I came across to find were Agatha was buried.
Finally after one hour
I found Agatha’s tomb. It was different from the rest of the tombs. It didn’t
have flowers around it, weeds were growing on the tombstone. It seemed like
nobody cared to take care of her tomb.
I took out the book and
stood in front of her grave waiting for something to be revealed.
Words started to appear
on the page it said, “Now that you have found Agatha Claretta place the book on
her tomb and chant I (your name) have the powers bestowed in me o Agatha
Claretta I summon thou from thee slumber.”
Should I summon Agatha it
would be a bad idea to waken the dead but I had to that was the only way I will
know about the book.
I placed the book in
the middle of the tomb and chanted, “I Zarina have the powers bestowed in me o
Agatha Claretta I summon thou from thee slumber.”
The ground under my
feet started to tremble, the trees nearby shock with intensity. The tomb
started to crack little by little until it was broken in two pieces and the
spirit of Agatha came out.
Agatha looked at me and
said, “It’s good to be back and out of the grave.” She laughed.
Her laugh sound like
the witches on movies.
She started at waiting
for me to run or scream.
I held the book so
Agatha was able to see it and said, “This book lead me here what can you tell
me about the book?”
Agatha’s grin faded away
and reached for the book. I hugged the book and took a step back.
She said, “Child where
did you get that book? How did you get it its impossible for a mortal to touch
and read it without dying?”
I said, “I found it in
the library, and if it is able to kill a human the why was it somewhere filled
with humans?
Agatha flew toward me
and said, “The book was to be place where no one would be able to find it and
even if people would have seen it. I put a spell on it so humans wouldn’t be
able to see the title. They would just see a red old book.”
I said, “Well if all
that is true than how am I able to see what is in the book?”
The sun was coming out.
Agatha turned toward the sun and said, “Come back tomorrow it’s almost dawn. I
am not powerful enough to stay in this world for long periods of time.”
I looked at my phone it
was 6 a.m. I had to get home before my parents woke up and saw that I wasn’t
there.
I ran all the way home.
I quietly went to my room, hid the book in my dresser and wrapped myself in the
covers.
My mom walked in right
as I pulled the covers and said, “You must have been really tired you slept in
your clothes.”
I slowly opened my eyes
and said, “Yea I think I will sleep a little longer.”
She smiled and kissed
my forehead and said, “Alright I will go and make breakfast I will call you in
a little to come eat.” She walked out and went down stairs.
I was exhausted I had
been up all night long.
It was 8 when my mom
called me down to eat breakfast.
I didn’t want to get up
yet but if I didn’t then she would suspect that I was up late doing something I
wasn’t supposed to.
After I finished eating
I got ready to go to my aunt’s house.
I got a duffle bag and
put extra cloths, make-up and hair accessories/tools.
Today was my cousin
Daisy’s birthday and I was to help my aunt with the food, decorations and
getting Daisy ready.
My aunt’s house was on
the other side of cemetery. As I past the cemetery I could still see Agatha
standing by her tomb.
When I arrived at her
house I saw Esteban walking past.
He stopped and walked
toward my car. He opened the door and helped me out.
I smiled and said,
“Thank you.”
He was still holding my
hand I walked toward my aunt’s house but he pulled me back towards him.
He said, “You’re
welcome, now why are you in such a hurry to go into your aunt’s house?”
I said, “Because I’m
helping with Daisy’s birthday party.”
I was waiting for
Esteban to let go of my hand instead he wrapped his arms around my waist.”
As much as I wanted to
stay in his arms I knew it was wrong. I finally pulled myself together and
said, “Will you please let me go my aunt is expecting me.”
He smiled and said, “I
will my angle but only can I come over later and hang out with you?”
I stared at him and
said, “No this is a party for my 8 year old cousin.”
He held me even tighter
and said, “I’m going to let you go then and keep you here with me.”
Daisy came out and
said, “Why are you still outside?”
I said, “Because
Esteban wants to come to your party later and I am telling him he can’t.”
Daisy said, “O.”
Esteban said, “Daisy if
you let me come to your birthday party I will let Zarina go.”
Daisy said, “O okay you
can come.”
He looked at me and
said, “So can I come my angle?”
I said, “Fine you can
come as long as you behave.”
Esteban leaned in
closer, our lips were only separated by a thin space of air.
He smiled and said, “I
will behave I will be a good boy for now.”
Chapter Seven
He slowly let go of me.
Daisy held my hand and
pulled me into the house.
We finished preparing
the food I went into my aunt’s room and got ready.
My aunt knocked on the
door and said, “Zarina one of your friends is here.”
I said, “I’m coming.”
I slipped my shoes on
and tossed my hair back.
I walked into the
living room. Esteban was sitting on the couch with a box wrapped in pink paper and
a big white bow.
He stood up and said,
“Where is the birthday girl I have something for her.”
Daisy ran to where we
were standing and said, “That’s me.”
I looked at him and
said, “You didn’t have to get anything.”
He handed the gift to
Daisy and said, “Yes I did what kind of guest shows up without a gift for this
sweet little girl.”
Daisy said, “Thank
you.”
She admired the
perfectly wrapped box then she said, “Zarina I like your boyfriend.”
Esteban smiled and
said, “See even your little cousin likes me.”
I said, “We are just
friends.”
Daisy smiled and said,
“Sure.”
I said, “Why don’t you
go and play with your friends.”
Daisy ran outside.
My parents and Mario
later arrived at my aunt’s house riding bikes to bring Daisy’s gift.
After a while my mom
came up to me and said, “Do you mind if we take your car home and then you can
call me to come pick you up.”
I said, “Yea I will
just call you or I will ask my aunt to take me.”
She said, “That’s fine
then.”
I stayed a little while
longer to help my aunt clean up.
People were leaving but
Esteban was still there. I said, “You should probable get going I’m going to
stay and help my aunt clean up.”
He said, “How about I
stay and help.”
I said, “Okay if you
want to.”
After Esteban and I
cleaned the tables and swept the floor my aunt said, “It’s getting late why
don’t you two go home thanks for staying and helping.”
I said, “Are you sure I
can stay a while longer.”
My aunt smiled at me
and looked at Esteban and said, “I’m sure go on home.”
I took my phone out to
call my mom.
Esteban took my phone.
Esteban took my phone.
I tried to grasp it
back but he just held it higher so I wouldn’t be able to reach it.
I said, “Okay you hand
you fun now may I please have my phone.”
Esteban turned off my
phone and put in his pocket and said, “How about I walk you home and then I’ll
give you your phone back.”
I said, “Why do you
need to keep my phone till then?”
He held my hand and
said, “So that way no one will interrupt our walk, so that way there will be no
distractions.”
We walked to my house
it was quite but it was somehow perfect it felt like a dream. He held my hand
as if I were a child in need of protection.
When we got to my house
Esteban held both of my hands up to his chest and said, “We should do this more
often.”
I laughed and said,
“What walk?”
Esteban cupped my chin
with his hand. He smiled and said, “I mean hang out more just you and me.”
My heart fluttered and
I felt my checks turn red.
Our eyes locked he put
my hand against his heart.
He stood still without
saying a word.
Chapter Eight
I said, “What’s wrong.”
He said, “Nothing I’m
just admiring you under the moon light.”
I quickly looked down
trying to hide my smile. I said, “O um I have to go, good night.”
He took me by the waist
and whispered in my ear, “Good night my angle I will be counting every second
till I see you again.”
Esteban gently kissed
my forehead and walked off.
I walked into the
living room with a smile on my face. My mom was sitting on the cough drinking
what looked like tea.
She said, “Well someone
is happy, but why didn’t you call me.”
I said, “I was but
Esteban took my phone and suggested he walk me home.”
My mom elbowed me and
said, “So what happened?”
Mario walked in and
said, “It’s obvious they have a thing.”
I said, “That’s not
true why don’t you mind your own business.”
Mario walked out of the
living room and said, “Whatever.”
My mom smiled and said,
“So?”
I sat on the couch and
my mom came and sat next to me.
I said, “He held my
hand all the way here, then when we got here he held me by the waist then he
lifted my chin and kissed my forehead.”
My mom said, “O so I’m
guessing I will be meeting your boyfriend soon.”
I said, “No it’s
nothing I mean we are nothing more than friends.”
My mom said, “What do
you mean just friends that doesn’t sound like just friends.”
I said, “I don’t know
what we are. I mean sometimes I do want him and I to be more then friends but
at the same time I don’t.”
She smiled at me and
said, “I’m sure everything will fall into place soon.”
My mom went to her room
and went to sleep.
I laid in my room
replaying everything that Esteban said and did. I slowly feel asleep.
It was midnight when I
woke up. I put a sweater pm and put the red book in my bag.
When I got to the
cemetery I found Agatha sitting on her tomb stone.
She said, “It was about
time child I started to believe you weren’t going to come back.”
I said, “I want to know
about this book.”
Agatha said, “Child sit
down.”
She was quite for a
couple of minutes as if she were trying to recall something.
Agatha said, “Child who
are your parents?”
I said, “Carrie and
Vince.”
She said, “Those names
sound familiar. What is your last name?”
I said, “Retta.”
Agatha said, “Something
is missing. If you were able to grab the book then you must carry the family
name Claretta.”
I said, “Isn’t that you
last name.”
She said, “Yes but the
book can only be touched by the ones that carry the name Claretta.”
I said, “No that can’t
be true.”
She said, “That will be
all for tonight.”
I got home and went to
sleep I had school tomorrow.
When I got to school my
friends were waiting for me.
Sophia came up to me
and said, “So what happened are you and Esteban a item.”
I thought for a while
then I said, “No nothing is going on between me and Esteban.”
Mae said, “Good nothing
better be going on I don’t like that boy.”
Sophia and Mae left. It
was just Emily and me.
Emily said, “I heard
Esteban went to Daisy’s birthday what happened.”
I said, “Nothing
happened.”
I wanted to tell
someone about everything that had happened and about how confused I was.
The bell rung Emily went
to her class and I went to mine.
During lunch I went to
the school library and looked up Agatha Claretta. I had to find out more about
her there was no way that she and I were related.
I typed her name and a
family tree came up.
Below her was my grandmother,
below my grandmother was my mom and below my mom I was there along with my
brother.
Could it be was I
related to Agatha but my mom hid it from me. There could be a good chance that
my mom hid it from me she hid the fact that I had gifts.
Chapter Nine
I printed out the
papers and put them in my writing journal.
I couldn’t focus the
rest of the day I was to distracted reading the papers that stated that I was
indeed related to Agatha.
That night I went to
the cemetery.
I showed the papers to
Agatha.
She said, “I knew it,
that means that your name isn’t Zarina Retta it’s Zarina Claretta.”
I was shocked my
parents had been lying to me. They lyed to me about my gifts and full name what
was next?
I looked at the book
but nothing came up there was nothing in the pages.
I looked at Agatha and
asked, “So would you tell me what my gifts are?”
She said, “Of course you have the gifts of
understanding, reading people, seeing and communicating to the dead, swing the
past and the future last but not least you are a angle of light/witch like me.”
I said, “A witch aren’t
those bad?”
Agatha took my hand her
touched felt cold like frost.
She said, “Well you see
my child magic isn’t good nor bad it’s how people decide to use it. I am a good
witch, I decide to do good with it. I don’t want to do harm. It is up to you if
you want to do good or bad.”
I said, “If I have the
gifts of seeing and communicating to the dead, why can I only see you?”
Agatha laughed and
said, “Look over there, look at the rest of the tombs what do you see?”
I started at the
graveyard and said, “I see nothing but tomb stones.”
Agatha said,
“Concentrate you will only see the dead if you focus.”
I gave it another try
this time I saw shapes of mist which I assumed were spirits walking around and talking
to each other just like any living person would.
Agatha said, “Well?”
Once she spoke
everything disappeared.
I said, “I saw and
heard them but once you talked I could no longer see them, why?”
She said, “That is
because you are not trained to keep them in your sight for a long period of
time.”
I looked at her and
said, “Will you teach me how to use my gifts, and tell me why the rest of the
pages are blank in the book?”
She said, “The rest of
the pages are blank for you to finish writing the book.”
I said, “Why me, how
will I finish writing the book, if I don’t now anything about my gifts how am I
supposed to finish writing the book?”
Agatha grinned and
said, “Curios little one aren’t you. I will teach you about your gifts, but for
now that is all now run along home.”
I tipped toed in to my
room put on my pajamas and went to sleep.
The next day I went to
school but I was out of it I only got 4 hours of sleep last night.
I didn’t talk to my
friends all day I wasn’t in the mood.
I had told them in the morning
to not take it personal but I wasn’t in the mood to talk.
They gave me my space
thankfully.
All of a sudden I heard
voices saying my name, I looked around but no one I knew was there. Maybe it
was my imagination. I tried to ignore the voices but it was hard.
The voices got louder
and louder they said, “Zarina help us we are trapped in this world, help us go
to the sky, help us or we will never leave you alone.”
I whispered, “Who are
you, why don’t you go away and find someone else that has time to deal with
you.”
I could distinguish one
of the voices belonged to a little boy no older then 6 years old.
The little boy said,
“You can hear us help us you are our only chance to find our way to the sky.”
I got up from the desk,
class was over. I put my stuff in my school bag and was walking out the door
when I heard laughter.
I turned around but
there was no one in the classroom but the teacher and me.
The teacher smiled and
said, “Have a wonderful day Zarina.”
I smiled and said, “You
too.”
When I turned back to
the door there was 3 little kids smiling at me. Then they ran off.
I quickly walked out of
the classroom and looked around.
I couldn’t see them,
were did they go they were right here were I am standing a couple of seconds
ago.
They couldn’t have gone
fare they are just kids.
Chapter Ten
I shook my head and
went home.
When I got home Esteban
was on my porch.
He walked to my car,
opened the door, extended his hand and said, “Miss would you like some help
getting out of the car.”
I smiled, took his hand
and said, “Why yes sir thank you.”
As I walked to the
front door I said, “What are you doing here?”
He said, “I came to see
you, what’s wrong you didn’t even smile at me today.”
I said, “Nothing I am
fine I just didn’t get any sleep last night.”
I opened the door and
walked in.
Esteban put his arm
against the door and said, “Aren’t you going to invite me in?”
I looked out at the
driveway to make sure my parents weren’t home.
I said, “Sure.”
He walked in and shut
the door behind him.
I said, “Go ahead and
sit. I will be right back.”
He sat on the couch.
I went to my room put
my school bag away and slipped into a baggy one shoulder shirt and sweat pants.
Then I went to the kitchen
and hollered, “Esteban would you like something to drink?”
He said, “Sure I’ll
have whatever you are having.”
I started the coffee
and went to the living room.
Esteban looked at me
and said, “You look just as good in sweats as in dress cloths. You should were
that more often.”
I sat on the end of the
couch and said, “Thank you I guess.”
Esteban said, “You just
look attractive and seductive in a lazy way. I mean you always turn me on but
now it’s just a whole new level.”
He got up and sat
closer to me. I could feel my checks turning red. I quickly looked down.
Esteban said, “I find
it cute how you try to hide when you blush.”
I got up and said, “I
don’t know what you are talking about, but I better go and check on the
coffee.”
I went to the kitchen,
splashed water on my face and got two cups out and poured the coffee in.
I handed him a cup of
coffee.
He said, “Thank you but
do you know what else I like about you?
I sat down and said,
“Nope because it doesn’t matter.”
He took a drink,
laughed and said, “I like how you pull yourself together after I express my
feelings to you or when I do something to you.”
I smiled and quickly
took a sip of coffee to hide that I was smiling.
Esteban said, “How
about we watch a movie.”
I said, “Sure look in
the cabnites next to the TV and pick a movie out.”
He took one out and
said, “How about this one?”
I said, “Sure, why
don’t you start it, I’ll be right back.”
I went to my room and
got my blanket.
I sat in he middle of
the couch and wrapped myself with it.
Esteban sat next to me
and said, “Ready?”
Mario walked in stared
for a while and then said, “I’m home, I’ll just leave you two alone I’ll be in
my room if you need me.”
Esteban grabbed the
other end of the blanket and pulled it over him.
He put his arm around
me. We both turned at the same time our eyes locked.
He grabbed my waist and
swung me to his lap. I wrapped my legs around him.
It seemed like time
stopped he leaned toward me our eyes were still locked together.
Esteban pushed a strand
of my hair back and said, “Don’t be scared my angle I’m not going to hurt you
and I won’t let anything happen to you. Do you trust me?”
I said, “I do truest
you.”
We both leaned in
closer I felt his hands going under my shirt running down my back. He pulled me
close to him. I closed my eyes. I could feel he warmth of his body so close,
his warm breath hitting my lips…..
Chapter Eleven
My cellphone rung. We
both backed up a little bit.
I looked at my phone it
was a text from my mom saying, “We will be home in 30 minutes sorry for running
late.”
Esteban held my chin
and said, “Who was that?”
I said, “It was my
mom.”
He pulled me closer
then we were and said, “Where were we.”
I grabbed his hand that
was on my chin and said, “You better go my parents will be here in 30 minutes.”
He stared at me with
such tenderness and said, “As you wish, but we will continue this the nest time
I encounter you.”
I walked him out the
door and said, “See you tomorrow.”
Esteban said, “I will
see you tonight in my dreams.”
He took my right hand
kneeled down and said, “Parting is such sweet sorrow, that I shall say good
night till it be morrow.” Shakespeare once said.
Then he kissed my hand,
smiled and went on his way.
I walked in and waited
for my parents.
I heard the front door.
My mom hollered from
the dining room, “Time for dinner, I brought your favorite.”
Mario
and I walked in to the dining room and took our seats.
My
dad said, “So how was you day did you do anything exiting.”
When
he said that I forgot that to tell Mario to not mention Esteban. I shook my
head hoping Mario would do the same.
Mario said, “Well actually Zarina watched a movie.”
I
glared at him then my dad said, “By herself or with someone.”
Mario
looked at me said, “With me we watched a movie together.”
After
dinner Mario and I helped clean the dishes.
I
went to my room and laid on my bed waiting for everyone else to go to sleep so
I could go see Agatha.
Finally
the house was quite I walked out of the house and walked to the cemetery. I
felt like someone was watching me when I got to the gate of the cemetery. I
looked around but didn’t see anyone.
I
jumped the gate and went to Agatha’s tomb.
Agatha
flew down from a tree and said, “Well your egger are you ready to start your
training?
I
said, “Yes what are you going to teach me tonight?”
Agatha
said, “Well I don’t know what to teach you, you already understand people, their
feelings, seeing the past and the future. Your Gifts will continue to awaken.
How about I start teaching you magic?”
I
said, “Okay but how are you sure I already know how to do the other things?”
Agatha
said, “My dear I have seen you use your gifts.”
I
said, “Okay but only good magic.”
She
said, “Magic it’s self isn’t bad it’s how the people decide to do with magic
that makes it bad.”
I
nodded.
She
said, “There is a few things you should know before I start your training.”
I
cut her off and said, “May I ask you a question more like may I tell you
something?”
Agatha
said, “About What my child?”
I
said, “It’s about something that happened today.”
She
said, “Go ahead that is why I am here to answer and help you in any way I can.”
I
said, “Well today at school I heard voices.”
She
said, “What did they say?”
I
said, “They said to help them that they were trapped in this world and that I
was the only person that help them go to the sky.”
Agatha
said, “Did you ignore them?”
I
said, “I tried.”
She
said, “You spoke to them what did you say?”
I
said, “I told them to go away and find someone else that had time to help them.
Then I heard them laughing. I saw them, they were 3 children. I just wanted to
tell you that. Can we start my training now?”
She
said, “Okay well, whenever you’re ready.”
Chapter
Twelve
I
said, “What are you going to teach me then if you say that I know how to use my
gifts and that they will continue to awaken?”
Agatha
said, “I will teach you the basics about magic/spells. Listen to me by training
you and teaching you about the truth about your family’s past. You must have a
strong mind and pure, strong heart.”
I
said, “Why?”
She
said, “There is a lot of bad things that will try to get you to go into the
dark side, they will try to control your mind, since you are in training they
will try to use your powers and energy for their own purposes. Understood.”
I
said, “Yes, Is that what the children I saw were trying to do?”
Agatha
said, “I believe so.”
I
said, “But how will I know if they are good or bad?”
She
said, “By the vibes and energy they put out you don’t have to worry too much
about it you will learn the differences.”
Agatha
mumbled something and the book appeared in her hands. I looked through my bag
it wasn’t there.
She
waved her hand over a page and said, “Here, go and read this carefully and come
back tomorrow.”
I
nodded. The page was full of warning and information of what to expect.
I
woke up with the book open by my side the words were still visible. I flipped
through the past pages that I had read I could clearly see all the writing.
I
put the book in one of the draws of my dresser. I couldn’t leave it there for
anyone to come along and read it.
I
picked up Emily to go to school.
The
first thing Emily said, “What’s up with you and Esteban?”
I
said, “Nothing.”
She
said, “Don’t lie to me I’m going to ask Esteban.”
I
started to panic inside if she asks Esteban there is no telling what he would
say, he would think that I mad Emily ask him.
Emily
said, “So should I?”
I
continued to drive and said, “Sure he isn’t going to tell you anything
different then what I just told you.”
I
thought that by telling her to go ahead she wouldn’t, well that’s how it
usually goes.
We
got to school and the bell had rung. Emily went one way and I went the opposite
side.
Esteban
came behind me wrapped his hands around my waist, pulled me close, kissed my
neck and said, “I have been wanting to do that to you.”
I
felt my heart melt. I could still feel the heat of his lips on my neck. I felt
he warmth of his hands on my waist.
I
smiled and said, “Well now that you did it can you let me go to class?”
He
said, “I will walk you to class.”
When
we got to my class he took my hand kissed it and said, “I will count every
second until I see you again.”
I
walked into class and took my seat. I didn’t really pay attention the entire
day everything seemed to be a hazy blur.
Chapter
Thirteen
I
was driving home from school with Emily. She looked at me with a smile.
I
said, “What’s so funny.”
Emily
said, “Well I asked Esteban.”
I
said, “About what?”
She
said, “Stop acting you know.”
I
shook my head and said, “I really don’t know.”
Emily
said, “Fine I asked him about you and him.”
I
nodded and said, “And?”
She
said, “Well he told me how you act around him.”
I
said, “Okay but see there is nothing going on between Esteban and me.”
Emily
smiled and said, “Well Esteban told me that he does have feelings for you but
every time he gives you a hint you blush. Then you try to hid that you’re
blushing and pull yourself together.”
I
parked in Emily’s driving way and said, “Fine yes all that is true.”
She
said, “Why didn’t you tell me.”
I
said, “Emily I didn’t want to tell you because I didn’t think it was a big
deal. The reason I pull myself together when he gives me hints because I’m not
sure it’s real or if he is just messing around with me.”
Emily
said, “Zarina, Esteban told me that he does have feelings for you and if you feel
the same then go for it.”
I
hugged her and said, “Thanks I really needed to talk to someone about that.”
She
said, “No problem now go and get it.”
Emily
walked on her porch and waved.
On
my home I was still debating if I should let my feelings for Esteban surface or
if I should lock them away.
When
I got home Mario was waiting in the front porch. I said, “Why are you outside?”
He
said, “Because mom and dad aren’t home.”
I
said, “Then you open the door with your key and go inside.”
Mario
stood there looking at the key hole. I laughed and said, “Don’t you have your
keys?”
He
said, “No I forgot to grab them in the morning.”
I
got my keys out and opened the door. On the other side of the door there was a
note that said, “We went out of town for a real estate meeting there is food in
the fridge we will call latter.”
Mario
and I ate then I went upstairs to my room and changed into sweatpants and a
t-shirt.
I
took the red book out I was to practice some incantations and spells. I was
terrible for the most part but I was getting better. I practiced all afternoon
long.
Mario
knocked on my door and walked in he took the book from my hands.
I
said, “Give it back.”
He
opened it then gave it back to me and said, “Here I don’t know why this book
means so much to you, all the pages are blank. Well I’m going to sleep good
night.”
I
said, “Okay good night.”
He
walked out and closed the door behind him.
I
opened the book the pages weren’t blank I could see all the words. How could
Mario not see the words were clear and bold.
Later
that night I checked on my brother he was sound asleep. I tipped toed out of
his room and went out of the front door, I was to go and meet Agatha.
On
the way to the cemetery I felt like I was being watched. I would stop from time
to time to see if I saw anyone following.
I
jumped over the gate. Agatha was sitting patiently on her tomb.
She
smiled and said, “Did you practice?”
I
nodded.
Agatha
said, “Well let’s see what you learned. Make a apple tree grow.”
I
opened the book and found the spell. I waved my hand and said, “I bestow an
apple seed on this soil to grow and to blossom.”
The
ground started to shake and glow. A little sapling came out of the soil but
then it stopped and died.
I
said, “I’m not good at this.”
Agatha
said, “Yes you are, see the trick of being good at magic is to make the spells
yours. You have to want it and let your self have it in order for the magic to
work. Try again.”
I
put the book down, waved my hands and said, “An apple tree I want and an Apple
tree I shall have.”
The
sapling turned green and started to grow. Then there was a blossom on the tree
which turned into a big red apple.
She
said, “Good now try to turn this pebble into a dove.”
I
took the pebble in my hands and said, “From a rock grounded on the ground to a
dove free in the air you shall be.”
I
felt something moving in my hands. Could it be did I turn a life less pebble
into a dove. I opened my hands and there was a dove..”
I
said, “Welcome to the world now go along and soar to the sky.” The dove flew
out of my hands.
Chapter
Fourteen
Agatha
said, “You are a fast learner my child. Now go home and keep practicing and
very soon you will master magic.
I
said, “Okay I’ll see you tomorrow.”
I
jumped over the gate and jogged to my house.
When
I got home I heard footsteps behind me I stopped and looked back, I didn’t see
anything. I stood on my porch for a while waiting to here the footsteps but it
was quite.
I
opened the door and then quietly went to my room.
The
next day I woke up and started to practice. I closed my eyes and said, “Closet
doors it’s time for me to choose my cloths open up and show me what you hold
inside.”
The
doors swung open and one by one hangers would come out of the closet awaiting
my approval.
When
I got to school my friends Sophia, Brigit, Mae, Elizabeth, and Emily were
sitting at a cafeteria table. I went and sat by Brigit.
Mae
said, “Hey Zarina here’s some coffee and a chocolate muffin”
She
handed them to me.
I
said, “Thanks”
Then
Sophia said, “That’s from all of us not just from Mae.”
I
looked at Mae then I said, “Well thank all of you I appreciate it.” Then I
smiled and took a bite from the muffin.
Brigit
said, “So what’s up with Esteban and you.”
The
whole group started at me waiting for me to answer.
I
said, “Nothing we are just friends that’s all?”
Brigit
raised her eyebrows and said, “Well he walks you to class every day.”
I
said, “Just because he walks me to class doesn’t mean anything. He and I are
just friends and that’s it.”
Sophia
said, “Yea right okay.”
Then
Elizabeth said, “Hey since we don’t have school tomorrow we should all get
together and go out for dinner and then have a sleep over at my house.”
They
all agreed I just sat quietly.
Elizabeth
looked at me and said, “Well Zarina what do you think are you up for it?”
I
said, “I can’t go I already have plans but you guys go ahead and have fun.”
Emily
said, “Sure plans.”
Brigit
said, “It probable has something to do with Esteban.”
I
laughed and said, “Fine you can think what ever you want but nothing is going
on between Esteban and me. Maybe it’s all of you that like him.”
The
bell rung and I got up and walked towards my class. Esteban was waiting by the
stairs.
He
said, “Shall I walk you to class?”
I
said, “Sure.”
We
were quite all the way. When we go to my class he held my hand and kneeled
down. My heart started pounding it felt like it was going to explode.
He
held a red rose with the other hand and said, “A lovely rose for a lovely lady.”
He softly kissed my hand.
I
took the rose and said, “Thank you sir you are quite a gentleman.”
He
said, “Well my lady I shall see you later.”
All
the girls in my class approached me and said, “That’s so cute I wish someone
would do that to me.”
The
teacher came in the class and said, “Take your seats.”
Everyone
took their seats and class started. I wasn’t paying much attention on the
lesson all I wanted to do was to practice magic. I was going to try to make
time go by fast. I mean how hard can it be. After all I made time go slower
before I even knew I had gifts this should be easy, and Agatha did tell me that
the more I practice the better I would get.
I
looked at the clock, closed my eyes picturing the hands on the clock going by
fast and said, “Time go by faster not just the time on the clock but the actual
time.”
I
opened my eyes and I was no longer in the same class but in my last class. I
looked at the clock, school was over. I drove home and helped my mom make
diner.
After
I had finished eating I went to my room and took the red book out. It said that
only those with great power can create their own spells and those spells would
be more powerful than the basic spells. I flipped through the book to try to
find the spells I have been using, but found nothing. Did that mean that I had
great power? I would have to ask Agatha,
I put the book aside.
I
stood up and looked around the room for something I could use to practices
putting spells on. There was an apple on my desk that would be perfect to
practice on.
I
closed my eyes and pictured the apple coming to me. I extended my hand and
said, “Apple from the desk to me you are to come.”
I
opened my eyes. The apple slowly floated making it’s way to me.
Than
my mom opened the door at the same time the apple fell to the floor.
Chapter
Fifteen
She
said, “How did the apple fall?”
I
said, “O it was probably because I put it on the edge and it must have rolled
off the desk.”
She
said, “Okay then I came to tell you that tomorrow your dad and I will be
leaving on a business trip and we will be gone for a couple of days.”
I
said, “Okay is there anything you want me to take care of while you are gone?”
She
said, “No just your regular chores but thanks for asking. While we are gone you
are in charge I need you to be responsible and make sure things don’t go wrong
while we are out of town.”
I
nodded and said, “Yes I understand mom.”
She
walked out of my room saying, “Your father and I will go and talk to Mario
about what is going on.”
That
was close, she almost saw me doing magic if she found out she would’ve probably
have me under house arrest and always be watching me. I have to be more careful
when I use magic.
I
was on my way to the living room when I heard my mom in there room talking to
my dad.
She
said, “I think Zarina knows something about her gifts.”
My
dad said, “What makes you thing that.”
She
said, “Well right when I walked in her room I heard something fall there was an
apple on the floor. When I asked her what happen Zarina said it must have
rolled off the desk because she put it close to the edge.”
My
dad said, “Don’t worry about it maybe she had just set it on the desk when you
walked in the room and you opened the door to hard so it feel.”
My
mom said, “That can’t be because when I walked in she was sitting on her bed.
There’s no way she moved that fast.”
He
said, “Are you sure that she was sitting on the bed?”
She
said, “Yes and last night I heard the door open so I went to check on Zarina
and he wasn’t in her room.”
My
dad said, “Calm down she was probably in the kitchen getting a glass of water.”
My
mom said, “I am going to find out what she is up to.”
I
tipped toed in to the living room, sat on the couch and watched tv.
My
mom came into the living room and said, “Okay you two don’t stay up to late
even thought you don’t have school tomorrow.”
Mario
and I nodded and said, “Okay good night.”
After
a while Mario fell asleep on the couch, I tried to carry him to his room but
that wasn’t going to happed because he was heavy. I finally gave up I wasn’t
strong enough to pick him up.
I
looked at my arms and said, “From this couch to his bed I am to carry this
boy.”
I
attempted to lift him up once more. I picked him up easily this time it felt
like I was carrying a feather instead of an 12 year old boy.
When
I held him a few inches above his bed my arms gave out. I felt a sharp pain
pricking my arms. The timing was perfect I dropped Mario on his bed.
I
went to my room and played some music so my parents would think I was in the
room falling asleep. I waited 10 minutes and left the house to go to the
cemetery. My arms were throbbing. It felt like they were slashed several times
with a knife.
When
I got to the cemetery Agatha was no were in sight. I whispered, “Agatha I’m
here were are you?”
I
heard a voice but I couldn’t distinguish what the voice was saying.
I
said, “Agatha were are you?”
I
felt a sudden chill, Agatha appeared in front of me.
She
said, “I see you have been practicing magic.”
I
said, “I have, but I haven’t used spells from the book it’s more like I have
been creating my own. But the book says that only powerful beings could create
their own spells.”
Agatha
said, “That’s right my dear, come here give me your hands.”
I
raised my hands toward her, she grabbed my wrists then she applied pressure on
my veins; they started to glow it looked like gold was running through my
veins.
She
smiled and said, “See you have the same blood I do. The more you know and use
your gift the more your powers will shine.”
I
said, “What about my other gifts are you going to teach me how to use them
too.”
Agatha
said, “What I’m teaching you will awaken the other gifts and they will become
more powerful.”
In
her hand there was an ink jar and a feather pen.
She
said, “Now it is your turn to write in the book about what you learned and your
experiences.”
I
took the ink jar and opened it. It was the same ink that was used in the book;
it was gold ink. The feather was black like the sky during midnight.
She
said, “I wrote with this ink and feather about a century ago.”
I
put the ink, feather, and book in my bag
Agatha
said, “Go home I will watch over you and visit you from time to time, but don’t
let the ink, feather, and book out of your site. If it falls in the wrong hands
then darkness will fall on the world.”
I
said, “I won’t let that happen I promise to protect it.”
I
went home excited but nervous. Now I knew that my great grandmother wrote the
book and it now it is my turn to write in the book. I was nervous was I really
capable of protecting the ink, feather and book?
I
hid my bag along with the ink, feather, and book in my closet.
The
next morning my parents called Mario and me down to the front door.
My
dad said, “You two behave if something happens call us. Take care.”
My
mom said, “I love you guys I’ll call you when we get to the meeting.”
Mario
and I stood on the porch until we could no longer see our parent’s car.
We
went inside and had breakfast.
After
breakfast we cleaned up the dishes.
Then
I jumped in the shower and slipped on some lazy clothes. When I heard knocking
on the door. I opened the door it was Esteban.
He
said, “I hope I’m interrupting anything.”
I
said, “No. What brings you here?”
He
said, “I just wanted to see my angle.”
I
blushed than he said, “May I come in?”
I
opened the door all the way and said, “Yea come in”
He
sat on a sofa. I was walking close by him. He grabbed my arm and pulled. I
landed on the sofa.
Esteban
said, “Were do you think you’re going. One of the reasons I came was to hang
out with you and now you’re trying to avoid me?” He grinned.
I
said, “No I’m not trying to avoid you I was just going to sit on the end of the
couch.”
He
said, “O, well I want to sit close to you.”
I
said, “O umm okay.”
He
said, “Where are your parents?”
I
said, “There not home they went on some business trip.”
He
said, “So you won’t mind if I spend the rest of the day here with you?”
Chapter
Sixteen
I
said, “Sure why not.”
Esteban
said, “Perfect I get to spend a whole day with you.”
I
said, “Really you want to spend a whole day with me?”
He
held my hand and said, “No.”
I
felt my heart drop. I looked at the ground.
He
lifted my head and said, “I want to spend the rest of my life with you.”
I
smiled and hugged him.
He
held me by my waist and said, “You know I love you.”
I
said, “I know now.”
Esteban
said, “Do you love me?”
I
said, “I do.”
He
said, “Then why did you try to hide your feelings, even thought it was cute.”
I
said, “Because I didn’t know if you really had feelings for me or if you were
just playing around.”
Esteban
pulled me closer and said, “I promise I will never break your heart and I will
protect you from pain.”
I
just looked at him in silence.
He
said, “What’s wrong?”
I
said, “It’s just that I have heard that promise many times.’
Esteban
kissed my forehead and said, “I’ve had feelings for you since I laid eyes on
you, trust me I would never do anything to hurt you.”
I
walked out to the front porch, Esteban came behind me and wrapped his arms
around me.
He
said, “Sometimes when I can’t sleep I go outside, look at the sky and see what
I find.”
I
smiled and said, “I do the same.”
I
grabbed his hand and said, “Come with me.”
Esteban
said, “Were are we going.”
I
smiled and said, “You’ll see when we get there”
We
walked up the stairs to my room. I opened my closet. He looked at me like I was
crazy. I parted the hangers, behind the hangers there was a door. I opened the
door and pulled Esteban in.
He
said, “What is this place?’
I
said, “It’s my library/observatory.”
He
stood looking at everything and said, “You have tons of books, a microscope,
telescope, laptop, and a type writer. This is amazing, I wish I had a place
like this.”
I
said, “Look up.”
I
flipped a switch, the roof slid open.
Esteban
said, “You can see the stars and moon. How many people have you brought here?”
I
said, “No one you’re the first, not even my parents and brother know about
this.”
He
said, “I got an idea.”
He
moved the desk with my laptop on it. Then he went to my room and returned with
a blanket.”
Esteban
extended the blanket, laid on it and said, “Come here lay next to me, let’s
look at the stars.”
Then
he looked at me and said, “You see all the stars?”
I
said, “Yea.”
Esteban
said, “In every star there is a kiss and a hug waiting for you.”
I
could feel my cheeks turning red. We were facing each other.
He
pulled me close, hugged me and said, “I will never let anything separate us.”
I
smiled and said, “I believe you.”
It
was midnight and Esteban and I were still admiring the stars.
Esteban
said, “Do you have anywhere to be right now other than here with me?”
I
said, “No why?”
Then
this vision came to me it was last night when I felt like someone was watching
me. I saw Esteban it was him. I sat up in a rush and said, “You it was you. You
were watching me last night and day before that.”
He
sat up and said, “It was me I couldn’t fall asleep so I was sitting on the
corner of your street, when I saw you come out so I followed you to make sure
nothing was wrong.”
I
said, “O so what did you find out?”
He
said, “Well lets just say I know you have gifts and powers. Remember the rose I
gave you.”
I
said, “Yes.”
He
said, “Well I also have powers and gifts. I have known about them since I was
12.”
I
said, “Do you use your magic for bad or for good?”
Esteban
said, “At first I used it for bad my parents were teaching me to use my powers
to once again bring darkness to this world.”
I
jumped to my feet in a hurry this was what Agatha was warning me about.
I
said, “And you continue to train for that.”
He
stood up and said, “No I haven’t since I laid my eyes on you.”
I
said, “Why?”
Esteban
said, “My parents told me about Agatha Claretta, I did some research about her
and found out that you were her descendent. You see Agatha and my great
grandparents were enemies. You and I are supposed to be blood enemies, but when
I meet you there was something about you that made me feel attracted to you.”
I
said, “So what you thought that by making me fall in love with you it would be
easier to bring darkness to the world?”
He
said, “No, I kept hearing your voice over and over again telling me to become
pure and to use my magic for good.”
He
held my hand and said, “You have to believe me I love you and I no longer use
my magic for bad. Darkness was taking over me, but you awaken me and saved me
that’s one of the reasons why I call you my angle.”
I
said, “I don’t know if I should believe you. You just want to use my powers for
bad.”
Esteban
said, “That’s not true I really do love you, I would never use you. I no longer
use my powers for bad.”
I
heard Agatha’s voice and then suddenly she was in front of us.
She
said, “Zarina he is telling the truth.”
I
said, “The truth about what?”
Agatha
said, “About everything he does indeed love you, he will do anything to protect
you and you were sent to save Esteban. You two found each other sooner then I
expected.”
I
said, “What are you trying to say?”
She
said, “Esteban is a powerful warlock and you are a powerful witch. Both of you
come here.”
We
walked with her to the middle of the room.
Agatha
said, “Look up. This it’s destiny it was bound to happen sometime, you two were
to find each other and fall in love.”
We
looked at each other.
Agatha
said, “It was written in the stars for over a hundred of years ago.” She
disappeared we stood there looking at the stars.
What
was she talking about? Maybe there was something about that in the book. I
walked to a book case.
Esteban
walked after me and said, “What are you doing?”
I
said, “I am going to get a book”
I
reached to the top shelf and got the red book with golden letters, I walked
back to the center of the room. I opened the book than I said, “O this is what
she was talking about?”
He
said, “What?”
